2011 City of Adel Urban Revitalization Plan

The Plan has been approved and is now enacted - January 27th, 2011

The Adel City Council has been discussing and considering options relative to a residential tax abatement program in an effort to increase new home construction, facilitate community growth, and improve housing stock within the city limits.

One method of accomplishing these goals is to look at ways to promote housing. An Urban Revitalization Plan, or specifically for Adel, a residential tax abatement program is one way community leaders considered to achieve these goals.

Under the terms of the plan, anyone building a home in Adel during 2011 would be eligible for 100% abatement of property taxes for seven years, during 2012, 100% for five years, and during 2013, 100% for three years. The full final version of the Plan and exhibits may be found by clicking here. The Plan is a short run, sunset driven program that expires at the end of 2013. The underlying premise is to give incentive to those on the edge of considering a move to Adel to come and build a home in our community. Also, by encouraging those who already live in the community to maybe consider building a new home and thus, making their existing home available for others who do not want to or can not afford to build new. Because the program also is offering incentive for home improvements, existing home-owners are encouraged to improve the livability of their home and help increase the existing housing stock in Adel.
